Key Take Aways
The talk will focus on multiplayer patterns used with State Transfer technology. Deterministic technology will be alluded to but not tackled as the patterns and issues differ. The key learnings will be: 1. the concept of "Time" in the multiplayer context (local, remote & validated frame) 2. the impact of latency on gameplay interaction development so developers can identify which parts are solved by tech and which have to be tackled using design. 3. how common concepts for player feedback (animation, sfx, vfx) have to be thought of in the context of multiplayer; in particular their relationship to Time. 4. review of several common game development patterns (programming & production) and how applicable they are to multiplayer or need to be adjusted.
