Information

Grandma (88) is an entertainment game about family, transgenerational memory and Germany’s culture of remembrance. For a while, traditional funding and commercial models made it seem impossible to produce. We share why we chose not to frame it as a serious game, how an entertainment-first approach helped us reach a broader games audience and create potential for education and impact, and how we ultimately convinced a foundation to fund it. Using the project as a case study, we show how developers and supporters can make challenging social and political topics accessible—and how framing, audience awareness and the right partners can unlock new paths to impact and funding.
