Information

The federal government and almost all federal states have set out to strengthen Germany as a games location in order to exploit the potential of games for the economy, society and digital innovations. However, successful games locations around the world launched integrated strategies almost 20 years ago to develop a sustainable games ecosystem with financial incentive systems and positive effects for the general public. This is where Germany needs to catch up with the international competition. The most important measure is the promotion of games development in order to keep pace with global production.

Following the successful launch of the federal government's funding program, two funding application stops and an expired guideline mean that there is currently a lack of relevant resources in Germany that could effectively drive the games industry forward. The federal government is working on continuations and the federal states are struggling to help with their own funds. What a bold plan could look like that would give the German games location a seven-mile boot to catch up and what next steps are being prepared will be discussed here with the most important games politicians from the federal and state governments. On the panel, Minister Nathanael Liminski (NRW), Senator Franziska Giffey (Berlin), Dr. Fabian Mehring (Bavaria), Michael Kellner (BMWK), moderated by Frauke Holzmeier (NTV), will take part in the discussion. The starting signal for the race to catch up has been given.
